Frequently asked questions
How do I add fractions with different denominators?
Use a common denominator. Multiply each numerator by the other fraction’s denominator, add the two products, and use the product of the denominators as the new denominator. Then simplify.
Can the answer be simplified?
Yes. The calculator reduces the numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor.
Why must a denominator not be zero?
Division by zero is undefined, so a fraction with a zero denominator does not represent a valid number.
Can this page subtract or multiply fractions?
The current calculator implementation adds Fraction A and Fraction B. For other fraction operations, use a suitable operation-specific calculation until the tool is expanded.
