Markup Calculator
Calculate selling price from cost and markup.
About this tool
This markup calculator works out a selling price from the item cost and a percentage markup. It is helpful when setting a price based on a target cost-plus percentage, but it does not determine market demand or account for every business expense.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the cost per unit.
- Enter the markup percentage applied to that cost.
- Calculate the markup amount and resulting selling price.
Formula
Worked example
For a cost of ₹1,000 and a 30% markup, markup is ₹300 and the selling price is ₹1,300 before applicable taxes or other charges.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a 30% markup?
Multiply the cost by 30% to find the markup amount, then add it to cost.
Is a 30% markup the same as a 30% margin?
No. A ₹1,000 cost with a 30% markup gives a ₹1,300 selling price and a margin of about 23.08%.
Does this include GST?
No. It calculates cost-plus price only. Decide separately how applicable taxes are presented and verify tax rules.
Should overheads be included in cost?
For sustainable pricing, consider all relevant costs—not only purchase cost—such as freight, packaging, payment fees, labour and overheads.
